Be warned that far too much fraud and
dishonesty has already taken generous donations away from the real
purpose. Be careful who you trust with your support!

Remarks
|
DEMIRA (Deutsche Minen
Raeumer = German Mine clearers) are not removing land
mines here, but concentrate on immediate FREE health
care for locals and visitors. Run on small budget entirely
by volunteers, without pay and totally unlike the RED
CROSS they made an excellentname for themselves in the
pst 8 months of operation at Arugam Bay. This is a highly
recommendet project; to establish a 5 year plan for
a permanent solid mini hospital: They urgently need
your support!

Remarks
|
This requires further
explanation
|
| To
judge by the experience of the successful Siam View Hotel for
example (est. ¼ century ago) the main street banks are prevented of
assisting due to Government 200m rules. Even good banks like
Deutsche Bank, who knows us for 30+ years are not helping at all. In
order to rebuild anything, and in total absence of any help or
donations even the SVH has borrowed, reluctantly, 300,000 Rs./ at
the going rate of 7% per MONTH (i.e. about 100% p.a) to get the
broken business back on its feet.
We have given up waiting for International help and we are too proud
now to start begging.
If any individual or organisation has money on deposit we would love
them to simply “park” it with us while they are looking for other
projects to invest into.
Any amount agreed upon
will be repaid AT ONCE on demand;
we are even happy to double the interest your overseas bank pays you
at present!
With this plan you make
your money work which no doubt must be in the interest of the
donors: To rebuild homes, lives as well as creating new jobs. That
actually is exactly what we do!
But you don’t actually
spend the money!
AbHa
will consider carefully how to invest such temporary loan locally
and we personally guarantee any given amount to the investor.
The loan sharks, often successful Muslim business men, need to
reduce their charges!
Our reputation is excellent; we have NO other debts, loans, mortgage
or hire purchase outstanding and owe not one dollar to anyone else
right now.
If
asked we are also happy to recommend certain other investments to
you using our long standing local knowledge.

Please
note: The photos below made in April 2005. The mail
Elephant was not killed for Ivory. The trunk was cut
off by the Wildlife department to keep the teeth and
the small Ivory he had away from black market. This
Elephant was killed because of the conflict between
Farmers and Wildlife.

Remarks
|
The old 100 kVa SVH
power generator powered the area for many years. It
could be repaired for about 3.000 Euro; damaged in the
Tsunami
Due to many new freezers,
fridges, lights etc. the total power requirements has
increased. At times the mains supply is cut for days;
this community project would benefit everyone and reduce
the risk of Salmonella poisoning due to interrupted
cooling chains and defrosted food items.

|
Traditionally the
night into Full Moon
|
|
For
more than 20 years the night (or lately: two nights) leading up to
the full Moon day (Poya day) entirely free parties were held at
Arugam Bay, in different locations, some small some BIG. It served
as magnet to attract visitors and much needed fun for the locals.
Next best thing to LIVE 8!
After the Tsunami the first event commenced end April and it was a
huge success with about 400 locals attending.
Financially a loss, of course as there was no income or foreign
visitors as yet. It is hoped that funding can be found to continue
this valuable contribution to the life quality of the most affected
people at Arugam Bay.

This
would ‘sadly’ be the end of silly daily water tanker deliveries by
self advertising organisations…. but it does make much more sense.
